IPL 2026: SRH Crush KKR By 65 Runs In High-Scoring Eden Gardens Clash

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs in Match 6 of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, after posting 226/8 and bowling KKR out for 161 in 16 overs. The result marked one of the most dominant wins of the season so far, powered by a high-impact batting display and timely breakthroughs with the ball.

SRH’s Explosive Powerplay Sets Up 226

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings was defined by a blistering start that laid the foundation for a massive total. Travis Head smashed 46 off 21 balls, while Abhishek Sharma matched the tempo with 48 off 21, as SRH raced to 84 in the powerplay.

The opening stand of 82 in just 5.4 overs set the tone, putting immediate pressure on the KKR bowlers on a flat Eden Gardens surface. Ishan Kishan added 14 off 9, but wickets in quick succession briefly slowed the scoring rate.

Heinrich Klaasen then anchored the middle overs with 52 off 35 balls, ensuring stability after the aggressive start. Nitish Kumar Reddy provided the finishing push with 39 off 24, taking SRH past the 200 mark.

Despite a brief phase where KKR’s spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Anukul Roy controlled the scoring, SRH’s depth allowed them to finish strongly at 226/8, scoring at 11.3 runs per over.

For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani stood out with 4/41, recovering well after a difficult start, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain the scoring.

KKR’s Chase Falters Despite Aggressive Start

Chasing 227, Kolkata Knight Riders required a strong start but lost Finn Allen early after his quickfire 28 off 7 balls. Ajinkya Rahane managed 8 off 10, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept KKR in the contest with a well-made 52 off 29 balls.

Cameron Green fell cheaply for 2, and although Rinku Singh contributed 35 off 25, KKR struggled to keep up with the required rate of over 11 runs per over.

Wickets fell in clusters through the middle overs, with Abdul Samad dismissed for a duck and Ramandeep Singh scoring 10 off 9. Sunil Narine briefly injected momentum with 12 off 4 balls, but the innings never stabilised.

KKR were eventually bowled out for 161 in 16 overs, falling well short of the target despite a run rate above 10.

SRH Bowlers Seal Dominant Win

Sunrisers Hyderabad backed up their batting effort with a disciplined bowling performance. Jaydev Unadkat led the attack with figures of 3/21, while Eshan Malinga picked up 2/14 to break the middle order.

Nitish Kumar Reddy also contributed with 2/17, ensuring KKR never built sustained partnerships during the chase. The pressure created by the steep target forced KKR into risky strokes, resulting in regular wickets.

SRH’s bowlers maintained control despite the fast scoring, consistently striking at key moments to prevent any comeback. The combination of a high total and effective bowling ensured a comfortable 65-run victory.

Klaasen was named Player of the Match for his 52, which anchored the innings after the early assault. The win gives Sunrisers Hyderabad 2 points in IPL 2026 and strengthens their net run rate significantly.

Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, will need to reassess their bowling plans after conceding heavily on a flat surface. SRH will look to carry forward this momentum, while KKR aim to bounce back in their next fixture.
