Yogi Govt’s Inclusive Education Drive Brings Divyang Students into Mainstream Schools

Until now, children with physical or intellectual disabilities were typically educated in separate institutions using different teaching methods. For many parents, enrolling such a child in a mainstream, reputed school alongside other children was only a distant dream. But today, that dream is not only possible, it is being realized.

Inclusive Education

This transformation results from the Yogi government’s commitment to inclusive education, a system where children, whether fully able or living with physical or mental disabilities, study together under one roof. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is redefining inclusive education by integrating Divyang students into the mainstream and ensuring equal learning opportunities for all.

To promote this vision, the government has launched Integrated Special Secondary Schools in seven districts. These districts includes, Auraiya, Lucknow, Kannauj, Prayagraj, Azamgarh, Ballia, and Maharajganj. These schools provide a common learning platform for visually impaired, hearing-impaired, orthopedically challenged, and non-disabled students. 325 students are enrolled and benefit from an inclusive, encouraging, and compassionate academic environment.

Mainstreaming Divyang students

The Yogi government firmly believes that mainstreaming Divyang students requires more than separate schools it demands shared spaces where equality is practiced, not just promised. These integrated schools are equipped with special educators, assistive learning tools, Braille materials, hearing aids, ramps, wheelchairs, and other essential resources. Through interactive activities, collaboration, and daily interaction with non-disabled peers, the invisible walls of discrimination are being dismantled.

This initiative is rapidly expanding. A new integrated school is being developed in Ghaziabad, while construction is underway in Mirzapur, Etah, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, and Bulandshahr. The ultimate aim is to ensure that quality secondary education is accessible to every Divyang child in every region of the state, empowering them to grow confidently and showcase their talent.

Opportunity for Divyang children

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes and Divyangjan Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap, emphasized that the Yogi government seeks to ensure respect and equal opportunity for Divyang children.

“Through integrated schools, we are ensuring that no child is left behind,” he said. He further said, “This initiative is reshaping the confidence, education, and future of Divyangjan. It’s not just a step towards self-reliance, but a powerful force strengthening equality, coexistence, and inclusivity in society.”
