Yogi Govt to Develop UP Dams as Tourist Destinations with New Infrastructure

In a significant bid to boost eco-tourism, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has launched a major initiative. This initiative will help transform the dams and reservoirs into vibrant tourist destinations.

In accordance with the plan, infrastructure will be developed at seven key sites across Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Sonbhadra, Hamirpur, Jhansi, Siddharthnagar, and Banda. The initiative also includes the promotion of water and adventure sports. The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Irrigation and Water Resources.

  1. Gunta Dam (Chitrakoot)

  2. Arjun Dam (Mahoba)

  3. Dhandraul Dam (Sonbhadra)

  4. Maudha Dam (Hamirpur)

  5. Garhmau Lake (Jhansi)

  6. Majhouli Sagar (Siddharthnagar)

  7. Nawab Tank (Banda)

Main objective of the initiative

The main objective of this initiative is to transform these scenic water bodies into attractive destinations for tourists. The government believes that the development of modern tourism will help in economic growth of the state. It will include facilities such as resorts, boating, water sports, trekking, and camping. This will not only attract tourists but also boost local employment and economic growth.

Furthermore, the Department of Irrigation and Water Resources will provide technical support, The necessary approvals for these projects will also be given by the department. It will also ensure that the safety and structural integrity of the dams are not compromised, Aditionally, environmental and safety standards for water-based activities will be strictly followed.

Uttar Pradesh is blessed with immense natural and cultural wealth. The Yogi government aims to develop these dams and lakes into world-class tourist destinations, offering visitors a peaceful and adventurous experience amid nature. This project is expected to benefit local communities both directly and indirectly.

The development of tourism will create employment opportunities in areas such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, and guiding services. Moreover, it will further strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position on the national and international tourism map.
