In a significant move to empower women, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is rolling out targeted welfare schemes. These schemes will be backed by timely financial support for smooth execution across the state.
Budget of Rs 112 Lakh
According to reports, for the financial year 2025–26, the state government has allocated Rs 112 lakh for women welfare. This allocated amount will be used to provide economic assistance to dowry victims, widows. It will also benefit daughters of financially weak families in Uttar Pradesh.
As an initial step, Rs 56 lakh has already been sanctioned as the first installment. This installment will be used across four key schemes. These four schemes are aimed at improving the lives of women and enhancing their social and economic standing.
Strict directives issued
Meanwhile, the sanctioned amount has been released to the Department of Women and Child Welfare. This will further ensure that there is no delay or disruption in implementing these welfare programs for women. The government has issued strict directives to ensure that the funds are disbursed correctly and reach the right beneficiaries on time.
The Yogi government has pledged to offer dignity and protection to such women. In accordance with that the government will provide around Rs 9 lakh this year. This 9 lakh will be used to help victims of dowry harassment.
8 lakh for legal assistance
In addition to this, Rs 8 lakh has been set aside to offer them legal assistance. As a first installment, Rs 9.5 lakh has already been approved. This support aims to help these women get justice and rebuild their lives.
The government has also announced major financial help for the marriage of daughters of widows. Under this scheme, Rs 70 lakh will be provided to ensure that these families don’t face financial difficulties during their daughters’ weddings.
Rewards to men who choose to marry widows
The Yogi government has further launched a unique scheme that rewards men who choose to marry widows. Rs 25 lakh has been allocated for this scheme, with Rs 12.5 lakh already approved in the first installment. This initiative is designed to promote a positive attitude toward widows and help restore their dignity in society.
These efforts will not only bring relief to dowry victims, but also offer new hope to widows and their daughters. It marks another important step by the Yogi government toward making Uttar Pradesh a safer and more supportive state for women.
