Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is making inclusive education a reality by establishing Integrated Special Secondary Schools across Uttar Pradesh. This transformative initiative marks a revolutionary shift in the education system, aiming to provide quality, equitable, and sensitive learning environments for both differently-abled and general students under one roof.
Schools Operational Across Key Districts
Currently, these integrated schools are operational in seven districts: Prayagraj, Kannauj, Auraiya, Azamgarh, Ballia, Maharajganj, and Lucknow, catering to students from classes 6 to 12. Each school has a sanctioned capacity of 560 students, equally divided between students with Divyang and regular students. To date, approximately 400 students have been enrolled and are receiving education in a nurturing, inclusive, and empowering environment.
This initiative by the Yogi government strengthens the ethos of inclusion and coexistence. Divyang students not only benefit from tailored facilities, but also grow and learn alongside their peers. This shared learning space fosters mutual understanding, sensitivity, and empathy, laying the foundation for a harmonious and inclusive society.
Modern Infrastructure and Special Support
These schools are equipped with specially trained teachers, assistive technologies, barrier-free infrastructure, Braille and audio learning materials, and therapy facilities. General students also receive the same standard of quality education, promoting holistic development for all.
To further this vision, the government plans to open two more integrated special secondary schools in Ghaziabad and Pratapgarh from the academic session 2025–26. This expansion will help extend the benefits of this progressive educational model to more children with disabilities in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The Integrated Special Secondary Schools are fast emerging as a model of inspiration in the fields of education and social justice. While Uttar Pradesh continues to make strides in economic and infrastructure development, it is also leading the way in promoting compassion, sensitivity, and inclusive growth.
Fostering Empathy and Mutual Understanding
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Narendra Kashyap, emphasised that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has consistently focused on integrating Divyangjans into the mainstream. From the launch of the tech-enabled Divyangjan Portal to organising job fairs and ensuring swift justice through mobile courts, the government has prioritised the welfare of people with disabilities at every step.
This integrated school model is not just an educational reform; it reflects the vision of a New Uttar Pradesh of New India, where equality, dignity, and opportunity are fundamental rights for every citizen.
