Yogi Adityanath Promises Access to Clean Water Under Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, announced a significant initiative aimed at providing safe drinking water to all residents in the state. This announcement was made during a press conference held in Lucknow, where Adityanath was joined by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. The new initiative falls under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which aims to enhance the quality of life for villagers through a reliable water supply.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been formally signed between the Central Government and the Uttar Pradesh Government to facilitate this initiative. The agreement stipulates that contractors will be responsible for the maintenance of the infrastructure for a period of ten years following the completion of the project. Adityanath emphasized the commitment to long-term service, ensuring that the water supply remains sustainable for the communities involved.

Current Access to Drinking Water

According to Chief Minister Adityanath, more than 10,000 out of approximately 105,000 revenue villages in Uttar Pradesh currently have access to drinking water via pipeline systems. He expressed optimism that the new initiative would significantly increase this number and improve water quality across the region.

Linking Water Issues to Health Concerns

Impact of Previous Health Initiatives

Adityanath noted that significant improvements have been made in the last five years. He stated that the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the provision of toilets in every household have substantially reduced the incidence of waterborne diseases, helping to lower the death toll from previously high figures. The Chief Minister referenced a drastic reduction in mortality rates linked to encephalitis, emphasizing the effectiveness of these initiatives in combating health crises.

Attribution to Central Government Initiatives

The Chief Minister attributed the success of the water and sanitation initiatives to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Adityanath acknowledged the importance of the “toilets in every house” program and the “tap in every home” scheme as vital components of the government’s approach to addressing water and sanitation issues in Uttar Pradesh.

Future Goals for Safe Drinking Water Access

The Uttar Pradesh government is now focused on expanding access to pure drinking water to every villager across the state. Through partnerships with the central government and responsible management of resources, the initiative aims to improve public health and overall quality of life for the residents of Uttar Pradesh. The commitment to sustainable infrastructure maintenance underscores the government’s goal of providing continuous water access to communities in need.
