Results of the Bihar Assembly Election will be declared today, and counting has already started. The youngest and most talked-about contender, BJP’s Maithili Thakur, has taken a lead in Alinagar.

After a high-octane campaign and two decades of rule, Nitish Kumar’s JDU is aiming to regain power in alliance with the NDA, while the Mahagathbandhan hopes to shatter RJD’s confidence.

Will Maithili find her electoral voice?

Constituencies like Alinagar, Lakhisarai, and Arrah have witnessed fierce battles, and all eyes are on the results. Although Alinagar is an RJD stronghold, folk singer Maithili Thakur has so far proven to be a strong choice. She is contesting against RJD’s Binod Mishra and JSP’s Biplaw Kumar Chowdhary.

For decades, the RJD has dominated this seat. Abdul Bari Siddiqui has won here seven times.

In 2020, however, the seat was won by Mishri Lal Yadav — an RJD old-timer who switched to the NDA and secured victory by 3,000 votes.

Will Jan Suraaj rise to the occasion?

In Lakhisarai, there is a tough fight between BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Sinha and JSP’s Suraj Kumar.

This is Sinha’s sixth contest from Lakhisarai. It has been a BJP stronghold for three consecutive polls (2010, 2015, and 2020). Caste factors, especially the Bhumihar and other upper-caste demographics, have played a significant role.

Sinha, a Bhumihar leader, civil engineer, and former RSS worker, also became the first-ever BJP Speaker in Bihar after the party returned to power in 2020.

In Arrah, BJP’s “Tiger” Sanjay Singh is contesting against JSP’s Vijay Kumar Gupta and CPI(ML)’s Qayamuddin Ansari. Since 2010, Arrah has alternated between the BJP and the RJD in every Assembly election.

In the 2015 by-poll, RJD candidate Mohammad Nawaz Alam secured victory.
