Who Is Hind Al-Owais? UAE Human Rights Diplomat Named in 469 Emails Linked to Epstein Files

The CSR Journal Magazine

Newly released U.S. Department of Justice documents connected to the long-running investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein show that Hind Al-Owais, a senior Emirati diplomat and human-rights advocate, appears in approximately 469 emails with Epstein dating from 2011 to 2012.

The records form part of a vast tranche of materials published under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law aimed at making previously sealed investigative files public. This release includes millions of pages of documents, emails, calendar entries and communications involving Epstein and his associates.

Who Is Hind Al-Owais?

Al-Owais currently serves as Director of the UAE’s Permanent Committee for Human Rights and has been a prominent voice on gender equality and women’s empowerment on the global stage. She previously held senior advisory roles at the United Nations representing the UAE on human-rights issues.

What the Emails Show

According to the publicly released files, the email exchanges between Al-Owais and Epstein largely consist of coordination and logistical messages, including scheduling meetings and travel arrangements. Some of the messages include personal remarks shared between the two, such as one from January 2012 where Al-Owais remarked about preparing “one girl… two girls,” and another expressing eagerness to introduce her sister to Epstein.

There is no indication in the released documents or from U.S. officials that these communications involve criminal conduct or that Al-Owais engaged in or was aware of Epstein’s illegal activities.

No Legal Action or Charges

Importantly, no criminal charges have been filed against Al-Owais in relation to the emails, and U.S. authorities have not suggested she was involved in Epstein’s criminal enterprise. Government officials, as well as civil-liberties advocates, have emphasized that the newly released files contain “raw and unverified” material and that an individual’s inclusion in them does not imply wrongdoing.

Broader Context of the Epstein Files Release

The ongoing release of the Epstein Files has generated broader scrutiny over the transparency and handling of the records by the U.S. Department of Justice, with some lawmakers criticizing redactions and delays. Members of Congress have begun reviewing portions of unredacted documents under special access procedures, and debate continues over how the files have been managed.

Public Reaction and Speculation

Online and media discussions have included speculation about the meaning of Al-Owais’s inclusion in the files, but those claims remain unverified and often exaggerated. There is no credible evidence confirming that the emails relate to unlawful acts or that they affected her diplomatic career.

The Department of Justice disclosure shows that Hind Al-Owais communicated with Jeffrey Epstein on numerous occasions in the early 2010s, but being named in these documents does not equate to criminal involvement, and no charges have been brought against her. Experts and civil-liberties groups caution against drawing definitive conclusions from raw document dumps without corroborated evidence.
