WhatsApp iOS Update Brings Messaging, Calling to CarPlay Dashboard

The CSR Journal Magazine

WhatsApp has unveiled significant updates aimed at Apple CarPlay users to improve functionality directly from their car dashboards. This latest update, identified as WhatsApp for iOS 26.13.74, enables users to send messages, make calls, and access their favourite contacts without the need to rely on external voice commands.

Previously, users depended on Siri for WhatsApp interactions, which often misinterpreted commands and resulted in confusion. With the new enhancements, individuals can now manage their messaging and calling directly from an organised interface on their dashboard, eliminating previous difficulties.

This update represents a notable improvement for the user experience, making it more convenient to stay connected while driving. Notably, the enhancements include the introduction of three dedicated tabs for chat, calls, and favourite contacts.

Tab Features Simplify Navigation

One of the key innovations in this update is the introduction of a dedicated chat list tab. While this feature does not enable users to open specific conversations, it allows them to view a list of recent chats, ensuring they are aware of any unread messages. This improvement aims to streamline communication while minimising distractions.

The second tab is concerned with call history, providing a chronological list of incoming, outgoing, and missed calls. This functionality includes relevant timestamps and contact names, enabling quick access to return missed calls with ease.

The third tab is tailored for favourite contacts, allowing users to swiftly connect with those they communicate with most frequently. This accessibility fosters efficient use of the app while promoting safer driving practices.

Installation and Compatibility Information

The latest features will be accessible to all users who update their WhatsApp for iOS via the App Store. No separate application for CarPlay is required; the functionalities are integrated into the existing WhatsApp installation. Once the smartphone is connected to CarPlay, users will find the updated features automatically appearing on their dashboard.

Furthermore, this marks the second update for WhatsApp on iOS within a short span of time. Recently, on March 27, WhatsApp announced the introduction of a long-anticipated feature allowing users to manage two accounts on a single device, a capability previously available only to Android users.

In addition to these features, WhatsApp has enhanced its chat transfer capabilities, making it easier for users to migrate their chat histories between platforms. This includes support for transferring chat records from iOS to Android and facilitating movement within the same operating system.
