UP Police Constable Arrested for Kidnapping and Rape of Dalit Girl Near School

In Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh, police arrested Vinay Chauhan, a head constable, on charges of kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old Dalit girl at gunpoint while she was going to school. Locals caught Chauhan after witnessing him push the victim out of his car close to her home following the alleged assault.

The victim’s father reported that on July 2, his daughter left home for school but never returned. Chauhan allegedly stopped her shortly after, forcibly pulled her into his vehicle, and assaulted her. When the girl protested, the man driving the car pointed a gun at her and threatened her. The family and neighbors began searching after the girl went missing.

The accused was spotted pushing the girl out of the car near their house. Family members pursued the vehicle on a motorcycle and managed to block its escape, forcing the driver to flee on foot. Chauhan was then captured by the public and handed over to the police.

An FIR was registered against Chauhan and an unidentified accomplice under sections related to gang rape, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, and the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Act. Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar confirmed Chauhan’s suspension and said, “The accused constable was arrested, and he was suspended on Thursday. The girl was sent for a medical examination. A DSP-level officer is leading the investigation.”

Victim Refuses Medical Exam

Police investigations revealed that Chauhan was in contact with the survivor over the phone. However, the victim refused a medical examination and reportedly gave a statement supporting the accused.

Superintendent of Police Arti Singh stated that Circle Officer Rajesh Dwivedi is handling the probe. Chauhan was previously posted at Nawabganj police station and remains suspended pending inquiry.

Similar Case of Minor Rape was Reported in March

Separately, in Moradabad district, a 14-year-old Dalit girl was abducted, tortured, and gang-raped in March. According to Bhagatpur police station SHO Sanjay Kumar Panchal, “The accused allegedly burned an ‘Om’ tattoo on her hand with acid, forcibly fed her meat, and subjected her to further torture.” One accused has been arrested in that case.

These disturbing incidents have raised serious concerns about the protection of Dalit minors and police conduct in Uttar Pradesh.
