Uber Driver Arrested for Alleged Molestation of Woman Passenger in Delhi

Authorities in New Delhi have apprehended a man for allegedly molesting and criminally intimidating a woman. The arrest was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Jaiswal, who provided details regarding the investigation conducted by the KNK Marg Police Station in Rohini.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Sachin Choudhary, resides in Badli village and works as an Uber driver. Jaiswal noted that the accused has a past involvement in a dowry death case. The complaint was filed by a 32-year-old woman on March 14, who reported the incident that took place two days earlier.

Incident Details and Investigation

According to the woman’s statement, she booked an Uber two-wheeler ride from her home to the MP Block Market in Pitampura on March 12 at approximately 1:48 PM. While she was riding as a pillion passenger, the driver allegedly began to misbehave and inappropriately touched her when they reached the Sector-13 Dividing Road, situated on KNK Marg. The perpetrator reportedly threatened the victim not to raise an alarm as he dropped her near FU Block in Pitampura.

In response to the complaint, the police initiated a case and swiftly began their investigation. DCP Shashank Jaiswal emphasized the gravity of the allegations and the necessity for a prompt action to apprehend the suspect. A specialized team led by Inspector Pramod Anand worked alongside further officers to trace the accused.

Apprehension and Judicial Proceedings

The police collected detailed information regarding the involved Uber vehicle during their investigation, which led them to trace the suspect. Subsequent raids were executed at Choudhary’s residence, resulting in his arrest. Upon interrogation, he confessed to his involvement and the motorcycle used in the crime was also seized by the authorities.

Following his arrest, the accused was presented before a court, which remanded him to 14 days of Judicial Custody. The police continue to delve into the case, ensuring that all relevant aspects are thoroughly examined. Further investigations are underway to ascertain any additional details or witnesses related to this incident.
