TRF funded through Hawala from Malaysia and Pakistan before Pahalgam Terror Attack: NIA

The CSR Journal Magazine

Terror outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which initially claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, received funds from countries like Malaysia and Pakistan to fuel its operations in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed. TRF had initially claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, but later denied responsibility.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed this explosive information while investigating the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22. On August 13, the NIA had said that they had come across a link to TRF’s foreign funds. Now all the information about that foreign money has been made public.

Mastermind of this terror attack was Lashkar-e-Taiba’s shadow organisation TRF. Investigators claim that money was sent to TRF from Pakistan-Malaysia through ‘Hawala’.

‘Militants’ Sajjad Ahmed Mir and Yasir Hayat raised funds for TRF

The NIA has learnt this information while scanning the mobile phone of a suspect in Srinagar. The investigating agency has also gathered detailed information about the person who had sent the money from Malaysia. According to reports, India is planning to present this information with evidence at the international level.

NIA investigators found 463 suspicious phone calls while scanning the mobile phone of the person in Srinagar, from which they learnt that terror outfit TRF was provided financial assistance from multiple countries including Malaysia and Pakistan. The name of an accused named Sajjad Ahmed Mir, a militant based in Malaysia, has come to the fore. Another accused named Yasir Hayat is also on the list of suspects. Hayat went to Malaysia several times to raise funds for TRF. With the help of Mir, he raised Rs 9 lakh for the militant organisation. This money transferred to Shafat Wani, another worker of the organisation.

NIA investigation has revealed that Yasir Hayat was not only in contact with Mir, but also had close contacts with two Pakistani nationals. The job of this top leader of TRF was to mainly maintain contact with militant supporters living abroad and collect money for the organisation.

TRF initially claimed and later denied responsibility for Pahalgam terror attack

Notably, The Resistance Front (TRF) initially took responsibility after 26 people were killed in a firing by militants in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, they changed their statement and released a new statement where TRF said that they had no connection with the Pahalgam incident. However, India claimed TRF has changed its stance and denied responsibility for the terror attack under pressure from Pakistan. Even when India tried to declare TRF as an international terrorist at the United Nations, Pakistan opposed it.
