TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, who made serious allegations against her estranged husband, was discovered dead alongside him at their residence in Oklahoma. Authorities are currently treating this incident as a suspected murder-suicide. The Owasso Police Department reported that Gilson, aged 43, was shot on Thursday. The other deceased individual found in the home was identified as her estranged husband, Jeremiah Duffey, who has also been known as Shawn Duffey on social media.

Less than two weeks prior to her death, Gilson had shared a TikTok video addressing allegations against her husband. The video was inspired by a popular documentary trend on Netflix and included a statement implying that she had just learned of troubling allegations regarding him. The post gained significant traction after her death, soon going viral on social media platforms.

Authorities believe that Gilson’s death, alongside Duffey’s, presents a grim scenario, and an extensive investigation into the circumstances is ongoing. Police have confirmed that there is no immediate threat to the public.

Previous Child Abuse Allegations Against Duffey

These allegations stem from an incident reported on June 9 when a teenage girl and her parent claimed that Duffey, who coached her travelling basketball team, had inappropriately touched her at an event held at an elementary school. An additional coach witnessed the incident and immediately intervened, informing the girl’s parent.

Police noted that similar incidents involving Duffey had reportedly occurred over a significant period across multiple jurisdictions and states, raising serious concerns about his conduct towards minors.

Due to Duffey’s affiliation with the Osage Nation and the incident taking place on tribal land, the case has been referred to the US Attorney’s Office for potential federal prosecution, thus removing the oversight of the Owasso Police Department from the molestation investigation.

Emergency Response and Investigation Ongoing

The circumstances leading to the discovery of Gilson and Duffey’s deaths involved a 911 call made late Thursday night. A dispatcher reportedly heard a woman screaming, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Shortly after, a juvenile fleeing the scene contacted emergency services, stating that his stepfather had shot his mother.

Upon response from the police, both Gilson and Duffey were found in the home with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads. While the nature of the incident raises serious questions, authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the full context of the tragic event that unfolded.

Gilson leaves behind two children. An online fundraiser established for her children’s benefit highlights her dedication to motherhood, describing her as an “incredible mom” who centred her life around her children. It underscores her commitment to providing them with a nurturing environment.
