Three Indians Dead, Five Missing After Boat Capsizes Near Mozambique’s Beira Port

A tragic boat mishap off Mozambique’s central coastline has claimed the lives of three Indian nationals, with five others still missing. The Indian High Commission in Mozambique confirmed that the incident took place on Friday during what was described as a routine transfer of crew members to a tanker anchored off Beira port.

Boat Carrying 14 Indians Capsizes Off Mozambique

The boat, which was carrying 14 Indian nationals, overturned unexpectedly. The exact reason for the capsizing has yet to be identified, and authorities are expected to launch a formal investigation into the cause.

Search and rescue efforts have been launched and are ongoing, involving coordination between local maritime officials, Mozambican authorities, and the Indian diplomatic mission. “Boat accident: Search and rescue efforts are underway. Mission is coordinating with local authorities regarding the missing 5 Indians,” the High Commission posted on X.

Of the 14 Indian crew members on board, five were rescued alive. One of the survivors is receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Beira. A representative from the Indian Mission has already visited the injured individual and is overseeing support efforts. “A Consular Officer from Mission is in Beira and visited Indian national who survived the unfortunate boat mishap and is receiving medical attention in the hospital in Beira,” said the High Commission.

Mission Condoles Loss of Three Indians in Boat Accident

In a heartfelt message posted online, the Mission expressed grief over the deaths. “We convey our heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives, including of three Indian nationals, in a boat accident off Beira port. Mission is in contact with families of those who have lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and is extending all possible assistance to them,” it stated.

The identities of the deceased and missing have not yet been made public. The Indian High Commission has assured that families of the victims have been contacted and are being offered every possible form of assistance.

The Indian Mission has also shared emergency contact information and remains in close touch with local authorities, ensuring constant monitoring of the situation. Updates will be provided as rescue operations and investigations continue.
