T-Series Secures Music Rights for Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5 at Approximately Rs. 9 Crore

The CSR Journal Magazine

The much-anticipated fifth installment of the popular Golmaal series has commenced production, generating excitement among fans. In a significant development, T-Series has acquired the music rights for Golmaal 5, with the amount reportedly around Rs. 9 crore. Bhushan Kumar, the head of T-Series, expressed confidence in the film’s potential, attributing increased brand value to the franchise’s legacy.

Challenges in Previous Collaboration

Historical tensions between T-Series and director Rohit Shetty emerged during Diwali 2024, when two of their key films, Bhushan Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, were released simultaneously.

The situation worsened when T-Series filed a copyright strike against the title track of Singham Again, claiming the new composition bore similarities to the original theme from Singham (2011), which they own the rights to. Consequently, Rohit Shetty and his team had to remove the song from various platforms and modify the track before its release.

Director’s Response to Copyright Issues

In a conversation weeks post-release, Rohit Shetty addressed the copyright dispute, stating that the strike by T-Series forced them to retract the song from all platforms. He acknowledged the contractual obligations but did not elaborate further on the circumstances that led to the conflict.

Long-standing Collaborations in the Film Industry

Despite recent challenges, the partnership between Rohit Shetty and T-Series has a rich history. T-Series has collaborated on 12 out of 15 of Shetty’s directorial projects, including notable titles such as Golmaal, Singham, and Simmba. The other films, including Sunday and Dilwale, involved different music labels, showcasing Shetty’s versatility in working with various distributors over his career.

Upcoming Rivalries and Themes

As fans await the release of Golmaal 5, the film is poised to introduce new dynamics, including a playful rivalry reminiscent of classic characters. Shetty’s creative direction continues to evolve, promising to captivate audiences once again.
