Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament from the Nationalist Congress Party, has formally requested that Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi extend the application deadline for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) by one week. This plea follows reports of technical challenges that have hindered many rural students from completing their registration process.

The JNVST is organised by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, aimed at admitting students to Class 6 and Class 9 in residential Navodaya schools across India. Sule highlighted these challenges in a post on the social media platform X, asserting that technical issues should not prevent deserving candidates from pursuing quality education.

In her message, Sule emphasised that genuine applicants should not miss out on educational opportunities due to factors outside their control. She expressed trust that the Ministry would address these issues to enable deserving students to apply.

Concerns Over Online Registration Process

In a letter addressed to Pralhad Joshi, Sule noted that the deadline for submitting applications was set for August 10. However, significant numbers of students reportedly faced obstacles while trying to complete the necessary online registration. She pointed specifically to issues related to newly recognised schools that were unable to register on the portal.

Sule also mentioned that several applicants experienced difficulties in receiving One-Time Passwords (OTPs), which are necessary for accessing the registration system. These technical mishaps have contributed to a situation where many potential candidates could not submit their application forms before the deadline.

The MP expressed her concern that such challenges could result in substantial academic setbacks for numerous deserving students from rural backgrounds. Therefore, she has called for a reconsideration of the deadline to allow those affected by these complications an opportunity to file their applications.

Call for Fairness in Educational Opportunities

Highlighting the importance of equitable access to education, Sule urged the Union Education Ministry to be mindful of the hurdles faced by students. She stressed that the extension would not only benefit those who encountered registration difficulties but would also promote fairness in the educational process.

By addressing these technical challenges, the Ministry would affirm its commitment to providing quality education for all, particularly to students from underprivileged backgrounds. Sule’s appeal seeks to ensure that no deserving candidate is turned away from the opportunity to compete for a place in the JNV schools.

As the deadline for the JNVST application passes, the response from the Ministry remains to be seen. The outcome of this situation could significantly impact many students who aspire to gain admission to these educational institutions.
