The Supreme Court has confirmed that the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest march planned for September 5 can take place, rejecting calls for an immediate ban on the demonstration. The court stated there is currently no justification for pre-emptive restrictions, emphasising a presumption of responsible behaviour by all involved parties.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant addressed concerns regarding potential disruption, indicating that it is the responsibility of the police and government to maintain law and order during the protest. Chief Justice Kant encouraged the petitioner to collaborate with the relevant authorities to ensure the demonstration occurs without incident.

“The stakeholders should engage with the authorities concerned,” the Chief Justice remarked, highlighting the importance of organisational cooperation in addressing issues related to law and order.

Protest Background and Objectives

The proposed protest is rooted in grievances expressed by the CJP regarding the government’s failure to fulfil commitments made during a prior nationwide agitation concerning the NEET paper leak incident. This agitation was called off on July 25. The CJP alleges that several assurances, especially regarding First Information Reports (FIRs) and written commitments, have not been met.
