A shooting at a food festival in Seattle on Sunday evening led to the deaths of three individuals and left four others injured, including a two-year-old child. The incident reportedly occurred around 6 pm during the final hours of the Bite of Seattle festival, which is known for its variety of food and retail vendors, as well as entertainment. According to law enforcement, the two suspects were allegedly firing at each other, prompting panic among attendees.

One suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting, while the second suspect managed to flee the scene and remains at large. Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat despite the presence of the outstanding suspect. However, he noted that a description of the fugitive was not available at this time, stating, “We’re still trying to figure this out.”

Witnesses described the chaos that unfolded immediately following the gunfire. Faith Adia Hunter recounted that she and her friends were close to the shooter and took shelter in the Seattle Children’s Museum as the situation escalated. Many vendors also abandoned their stalls in a rush to escape.

Response and Security Measures

In response to the shooting, police officers were deployed to the festival site, with several reportedly witnessing the initial gunfire. A thorough search of the festival grounds was conducted, but authorities were unable to locate the second suspect. Emergency protocols were enacted, leading to the immediate evacuation of the area surrounding the Seattle Centre campus.

Attendees expressed confusion and fear as the situation unfolded. Roberto Ramirez, a vendor, described the disorienting experience, stating he initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers before the panic ensued. He noted that as people fled, new arrivals were unaware of the incident and were informed by officers to leave the area.

Another festival-goer, Estan Wakonabo, shared his experience, explaining how he was caught off guard by the commotion and heard gunshots shortly after people began to flee. After ensuring his girlfriend was safe, he returned to find several individuals affected by the shooting. The distressing event has left a lasting impact on attendees and vendors alike, disrupting what is normally a celebratory occasion.
