SC Collegium likely to Transfer Justice Verma of Delhi HC to Allahabad HC

After reports came out about cash being found at the residence of a Delhi High Court judge, Justice Yashwant Varma, the Supreme Court collegium has proposed the transfer of the judge to Allahabad High Court. Justice Verma has become subject to an in-house enquiry by the High Court after cash was reportedly found at his New Delhi residence, where a fire broke out on March 14. Now the Delhi High Court judge is staying away from both, the court and the police.
In a statement released on Friday, the Supreme Court registry said that ”the collegium’s proposal for the transfer of Mr Justice Yashwant Verma, who is the second senior most judge in the Delhi High Court and a member of the collegium, to his parent high court, i.e. the High Court of judicature of Allahabad, where he will be ninth in seniority. This decision is independent and separate from the in-house enquiry procedure.”
The officers of the Delhi Fire Service and Delhi police remain silent about the March 14 incident at the official residence of Justice Verma.

Judicial History

Justice Verma was appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court in 2021, seven years after he was elevated as the judge at his parent Allahabad High Court. On the administrative level, Justice Verma is part of at least 11 committees and is also the chairman of the Arbitration Committee of the Delhi International Arbitration Centre.
