The CSR Journal Magazine

World Premier Squash (WPS) has announced the appointment of Saurav Ghosal as Sports Commissioner as the league prepares for its inaugural edition scheduled for August 2026. Ghosal, renowned in the squash community, is the only male player from India to achieve a Top 10 ranking in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Rankings. His career highlights include 11 titles and 9 medals from the Asian Games, along with two decades of participation at the highest levels of the sport.

Experience in Governance and Leadership

Ghosal has held prominent positions in squash governance, having served as the Men’s President of the Professional Squash Association and co-chair of the joint Athletes Commission of both the PSA and World Squash, which are the sport’s global governing bodies. In his new role, Ghosal will be responsible for establishing and managing the league’s comprehensive sporting framework, which includes competition formats, player qualification processes, and officiating standards.

Innovative Approach to Talent Identification

Adi K Mishra, the Founder & CEO of the Future of Sports Platform, emphasized the significance of Ghosal’s leadership in integrating elite competition with technology-driven engagement. The World Premier Squash league will feature 24 players, including reserves, of which 8 will be elite professionals. The remaining spots will be open to global competitors through AI-enabled challenges hosted on the Future of Sports Platform. This initiative aims to lower barriers for participation, allowing athletes without prior ranking or agent representation to compete for a place in the league.

Connecting Global Squash Community

Ghosal highlighted the importance of community in squash development, stating that the best players often emerge from less-visible backgrounds. He noted that the AI-enabled challenges would bridge the gaps within the global squash community, providing aspiring players from every corner of the world with a legitimate opportunity to reach the top tier of the sport. This initiative reflects a commitment to inclusivity and access in competitive squash.

Squash on the Verge of Historic Milestone

This announcement coincides with a pivotal time for squash as it prepares to make its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which has prompted increased global investment, heightened participation, and renewed commercial interest in the sport. The upcoming World Premier Squash edition is anticipated to capitalize on this momentum, showcasing the sport’s evolution and engagement in the competitive landscape.

Looking Ahead to August 2026

The inaugural edition of World Premier Squash is set to take place in August 2026, marking a significant development in the professional squash arena. With Ghosal at the helm as Sports Commissioner, there are expectations for innovative approaches to governance and competition structure that will appeal to both new and seasoned fans of the sport.
