On September 24, 2026, projects valued at Rs 78.26 crore aimed at enhancing sewer and drinking water infrastructure in Bhelupur Ward of Varanasi were officially launched. The ceremony took place at Ramlila Maidan, Gandhi Chowk, with Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari overseeing the groundbreaking process.

Present at the event were several key officials, including Cantt MLA Saurabh Srivastava, signalling the importance of the projects for local governance and community welfare. The initiatives underscore the commitment to improve essential services in the region.

Details of the Projects and Investment

The most significant component of the newly launched projects involves an investment of Rs 72.71 crore, earmarked for the installation of a 17-kilometre sewer and drinking water pipeline network throughout the Bhelupur area. This initiative is expected to provide residents with direct household connections, enhancing access to clean drinking water.

In addition to the primary water infrastructure, the development plan includes Rs 4.55 crore allocated for road construction and Rs 1 crore dedicated to mini tube wells and their reboring. These investments bring the total expenditure up to Rs 78.26 crore, aimed at addressing critical infrastructure deficits in the locality.

The projects are particularly noteworthy as they address long-standing issues in the area, some of which have persisted for over 70 years. By targeting these infrastructural improvements, the local administration aims to resolve persistent problems related to sewer blockages, overflow incidents, and the resultant waterlogging.
