Road Rage Turns Fatal: Man Stabbed to Death on Mumbai Highway

A tragic case of road rage ended in a fatal stabbing on Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway on Sunday, where a 34-year-old man was killed after a brief altercation over overtaking.

The victim, Zeeshan Rafique Shaikh, was travelling with a colleague in a Wagon R car when the incident occurred near Ghatkopar around 2 PM. According to officials, the confrontation started after a scooter, carrying a man and a woman, overtook Shaikh’s vehicle recklessly.

Situation Escalated After a Verbal Argument

After the overtake, Shaikh reportedly shouted at the scooter rider. The situation escalated when both vehicles stopped near the Traffic Chowki under a flyover. What began as a verbal argument quickly turned violent.

Investigators say the scooter rider pulled a knife—allegedly kept in his vehicle’s storage—and stabbed Shaikh in the chest on the left side. The attacker and the woman riding with him immediately fled the scene.

Shaikh’s friend, who was driving the car, rushed him to the nearest hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Shaikh was declared dead during treatment. A murder case has since been registered by Pant Nagar Police.

Police is Investigation the Crime

Police teams are now scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas in hopes of identifying and capturing the accused. A manhunt is underway to locate the suspect and his female companion.

Shaikh, a resident of Park Site in Vikhroli, was heading to Kurla CST Road at the time of the attack. He worked in the second-hand car trade and was known among locals for his business in vehicle sales and servicing.

The victim is survived by his wife, two children his daughter, aged nine, and a six-year-old son as well as his parents. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
