Renault to Launch New Duster in India: Know the Launch Date, Features, Price, and More

The CSR Journal Magazine

Renault is gearing up to make a significant return to the Indian market with its latest third-generation Duster, scheduled for launch on March 17, 2026. This highly anticipated model was officially unveiled in Chennai on Republic Day earlier this year, marking a revival for the brand following the discontinuation of the Duster in 2022.

The new Duster aims to re-establish Renault’s presence in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. Display and demo units have been dispatched to dealerships nationwide, with customer deliveries of the turbo-petrol variants set to begin in April 2026. A strong hybrid version is anticipated to follow around the Diwali festive season later in the year.

Renault’s Strategic Move in India

Initially introduced in India in 2012, the Duster played a crucial role in popularizing the mid-size SUV segment. The third-generation model represents a pivotal step in Renault’s International Game Plan 2027, which focuses on enhancing localization, introducing electrified petrol powertrains, and integrating advanced in-car technology tailored for Indian consumers.

Built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), the new Duster is engineered for the challenges presented by Indian road conditions and extreme climates while targeting a 5-star safety rating.

Exterior Features of the New Duster

The design of the new Duster retains its characteristic upright stance and squared proportions while incorporating a more modern and muscular aesthetic. Features such as flared wheel arches, ample black body cladding, and a prominent bonnet accentuate its SUV credentials. Compared to the global model, the India-spec version includes unique design elements.

The front end is equipped with redesigned LED headlamps featuring eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights that also function as turn indicators. The trapezoidal grille displays the Duster emblem prominently, and the bold silver front bumper surrounds nod to its original design. The vehicle is fitted with pixel-style LED fog lamps, enhancing its modern appearance.

Interior Design Innovations

Inside, the Duster introduces a fighter jet-inspired, driver-focused cabin layout. The dashboard features a layered design with sharp, angular elements and chrome-finished Y-shaped air conditioning vents. A raised centre console houses a compact electronic gear selector, contributing to a streamlined aesthetic. Leatherette upholstery in black, accented with contrast stitching and subtle green touches, adorns the seats, dashboard, and door panels.

A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel complements the cockpit design while minimizing physical buttons for a clean look. Practical features include a sliding front armrest, generous storage options, rear cupholders, and a 518-litre boot capacity. Comfort features include a panoramic sunroof and dual-zone automatic climate control, as well as six-way electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats.

Advanced Technology Features

Technology plays a central role in the new Duster, which is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system running Renault’s OpenR Link interface, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster enhances the driving experience by providing navigation and vehicle data directly in the driver’s line of sight.

Additional features include a wireless phone charger, a 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting, and a premium Arkamys sound system. The infotainment system is capable of receiving over-the-air updates, ensuring it remains up to date.

Engine Options and Safety Features

The new Duster will exclusively feature petrol powertrains, ruling out diesel and all-wheel-drive options. The entry-level engine is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that delivers 100 bhp and 160 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Higher variants will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, which generates 163 hp and 280 Nm, available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The highlight is the Strong Hybrid E-Tech powertrain, combining a 1.8-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, promising efficiency and performance with the ability to operate electrically for a significant portion of city driving. This variant is expected to be launched closer to Diwali 2026.

Safety and Market Positioning

The new Duster will be the first model from Renault in India to incorporate Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This suite of features includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition. Standard safety features encompass six airbags, electronic stability control, parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring, hill descent control, and an electronic parking brake.

The focus on occupant safety and active protection is a significant aspect of its development. Upon its release, the new Duster will compete in the busy mid-size SUV market, going up against established rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos, among others.
