BJP MP and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has dismissed suggestions that the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) is merely a political adjustment. During the ‘BJP government in Bihar’ session at Panchayat Aaj Tak Bihar, Prasad expressed admiration for Nitish Kumar’s leadership, citing his significant contributions to the development of Bihar.

Prasad elaborated on the history of the BJP-JD(U) alliance, stating that their collaboration began between 2005 and 2007 amidst a joint commitment to combat what he termed “jungle raj.” He emphasised that the longstanding ties between the two parties transcended mere political expediency, highlighting a deeper shared vision for Bihar’s future.

The MP stressed the respect the BJP has shown towards seniority in politics, noting that the party chose to support Kumar for the chief ministerial role even while holding more seats at the time. He commented on the current situation, where the BJP is pleased to have its own chief minister, reinforcing the strength of the alliance.

Focus on Development Initiatives

Ravi Shankar Prasad outlined several development initiatives that reflect the progress in Bihar, accentuating the improvements made under the current administration. He mentioned the refurbishment of Patna airport, the introduction of eight Vande Bharat trains, and the development of key infrastructure projects like Atal Path and JP Ganga Path.

In addition to these projects, Prasad reported that five bridges are under construction across the Ganga River. He took the opportunity to acknowledge the government’s relief efforts during recent flood crises, providing personal anecdotes from his constituency of Bakhtiyarpur and Fatwah, where he actively engaged with flood victims, even wading into floodwaters to offer assistance.

Prasad also involved two newly appointed IAS officers in flood-relief operations to allow them to gain firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the affected communities. This practical involvement was intended to foster greater understanding and responsiveness in future administrative actions.

Technological Advancements and Administrative Improvements

The BJP MP praised Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for facilitating the establishment of degree colleges in various locations. He highlighted the launch of a grievance-redressal portal, which reportedly assists citizens in addressing their concerns more effectively. This portal has also been adopted in states including Goa and Gujarat, with a follow-up system to ensure timely responses.

Prasad discussed future plans aimed at enhancing the state’s IT sector, along with the establishment of skill centres and an AI data university. He underscored the commitment to fostering a robust educational landscape in Bihar, which he described as critical for its overall development.

Finally, Prasad commented on the state’s law-and-order situation, asserting that it is being managed with strict oversight. He expressed confidence in the current government’s efforts to maintain stability and promote a positive environment for growth in Bihar.
