Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi to Abandon India-US Trade Deal Amid Allegations

The CSR Journal Magazine

New Delhi: During a rally in Bhopal on Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to abandon the India-US trade deal, claiming it undermines the interests of Indian farmers. At the ‘Kisan Mahachaupal’ farmers’ gathering, Gandhi described the interim trade agreement as “an arrow piercing the hearts of Indian farmers.” He stated, “Following the US Supreme Court ruling on the trade deal, I dare PM Modi to scrap it… but I believe he won’t,” indicating skepticism about the government’s actions. This challenge follows a recent ruling from the US Supreme Court that adversely affects Trump’s global tariffs, which had implications for the trade agreement.

Gandhi’s Accusations Against Modi and Industry Figures

Rahul Gandhi made a series of allegations directed at Prime Minister Modi, contending that he hastily entered into a trade agreement with the United States to benefit Union Minister Hardeep Puri and industrialist Gautam Adani, whom Gandhi referred to as the “BJP’s financial structure.” He suggested that Puri’s name appeared in the infamous Epstein files to intimidate the Prime Minister, claiming that “there are videos and messages which have not yet been disclosed from the millions of Epstein files held up in the US.” Furthermore, he asserted that the legal case against Adani in the US is, in fact, directed at PM Modi, suggesting implications that are contentious and serious.

Claims of PM’s Compromise Over Trade Deal

Continuing his address, Rahul Gandhi cited that the complicated relationship between Modi and Adani impacted the Prime Minister’s legislative actions, including his withdrawal from Parliament. “The target of the case in the US is Modi, not Adani,” he stated, emphasizing how these contexts were key reasons behind Modi’s abrupt departure from Parliament. Gandhi also suggested that on the same day he questioned Modi regarding a book by former Army Chief MM Naravane, the Prime Minister reached out to then-US President Donald Trump to finalize the trade deal that had been stalled for months.

Timing and Transparency Concerns Raised

Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the timing of the trade deal, insinuating that Modi finalized it without consulting his Cabinet. “He sold the country… Narendra Modi is compromised; he was trapped and forced to sign the US-India trade deal,” Gandhi claimed. He reiterated accusations that PM Modi had undermined various sectors, including farmers and the garment industry, by agreeing to the terms of the trade pact without proper consultation. “For four months, negotiations had stalled, and suddenly Narendra Modi expedited the agreement, which cost India dearly,” the Congress leader asserted.

Remarks on National Security and Military Decisions

In addition to his comments on the trade deal, Rahul Gandhi also commented on General MM Naravane’s unpublished book. He alleged that during a critical moment when Chinese tanks were entering Indian territory, PM Modi was unresponsive. He noted that Naravane had tried contacting senior officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, but received no response. “The decision to go to war is political, not a military one,” Gandhi said, indicating that the Prime Minister failed to provide necessary leadership during a critical national security concern.”
