The CSR Journal Magazine

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a prominent Congress leader, will engage in the “Chhatron ki Goonj” student outreach programme in Chennai on October 14, 2026. This initiative aims to connect with students and understand the various challenges they encounter. The Chennai event represents the sixth instalment in a nationwide series launched by the Congress party.

The initiative commenced on June 17, 2026, in Kota, Rajasthan, and has since progressed to multiple locations, including Dehradun in Uttarakhand and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Following these, the campaign was taken to Indore in Madhya Pradesh, with Chennai being the next destination.

Gandhi’s participation in this outreach reflects the Congress party’s commitment to student interactions, allowing them a platform to voice their concerns. The programme seeks to garner insights into the pressing issues faced by the youth, particularly in the realm of education.

Objectives of “Chhatron Ki Goonj”

The primary aim of the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign is to restore the faith students have in the education system, a sentiment expressed by Gandhi during the previous event in Indore. He emphasised the importance of rekindling the hope that many students feel has been lost due to myriad challenges, such as examination irregularities and rising educational expenses.

Gandhi pointed out that the initiative aims to provide students a passionate environment where they can discuss pertinent matters affecting their education and career prospects. Highlighting specific issues raised by students, he mentioned examination paper leaks, the effectiveness of academic institutions, and hiring practices within the sector.

In the context of these discussions, Gandhi encouraged students to feel confident in their inquiries. He contrasted the inquisitive nature of students with individuals he described as “andhbhakts,” critiquing their apathy towards serious questions about education and governance. The contrasting depictions serve to underline the urgency of addressing educational issues in India.

Campaign’s Impact and Previous Events

“The Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign was launched by Congress leaders to bring critical student issues into the mainstream political conversation. Previously held in cities like Pune, Kota, Dehradun, and Prayagraj, it has garnered considerable attention from students across India. The emphasis of these gatherings is not only on advocacy but also on mobilising further dialogue on pressing educational challenges.

The campaign seeks to create a comprehensive platform for students to discuss concerns ranging from examination procedures to rising unemployment rates. It aims to navigate and publicise the many hurdles that the youth face today, allowing their voices to resonate in political spheres.

As the programme unfolds in Chennai, the Congress party looks forward to gathering substantial feedback from student participants—feedback that may inform its future policies and initiatives. Through this campaign, the Congress party is promoting a dialogue that could facilitate significant changes in the educational landscape of the country.
