In response to the violent turn of the march towards Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, reiterated that peaceful protests constitute an essential and inviolable right. He highlighted the authority of the Constitution, stating on social media platform X, “Peaceful protest is an inviolable and fundamental right. The Constitution is your master.” Gandhi asserted the need for accountability when he remarked, “Power does not last forever. Accountability will certainly be enforced.”

The escalating protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak witnessed significant developments, including a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda. During this interaction, the CJP delegation outlined several demands. In his response, Nadda encouraged the protesters to conclude their sit-in, noting that they had initiated proposals for dialogue with the government.

CJP’s chief spokesperson, Saurav Das, reported that they demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alongside a request for Rs 1 crore in compensation for families of NEET aspirants, claiming that over 20 lives had been lost. He also insisted on the immediate release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently hospitalised.

Das declared that the protests would persist until their conditions, particularly the resignation of Pradhan, had been met. The ongoing situation has attracted widespread attention, especially concerning the serious implications for the education sector in India.

Violence and Injuries Reported During Protest

According to Delhi Police, the march saw an increase in unrest, resulting in over 118 police personnel injured, including several senior officers. The protests escalated as individuals reportedly engaged in aggressive behaviour, disregarding multiple warnings from law enforcement. The police detailed instances where demonstrators attacked them with stones and other objects, made attempts to breach barricades, vandalised government vehicles, and engaged in widespread acts of violence, severely challenging public order.

In the resulting conflict, around 60 protesters also sustained injuries amid the chaos. The Delhi authorities have categorically condemned the violent actions witnessed, emphasising the need for maintaining public safety and order.

The agitation comes amidst larger discussions regarding the NEET exam processes and their transparency, an issue that has been of growing concern among students and their families across the nation. As this situation develops, the focus remains on the reactions from both governmental authorities and the student community.
