Raghav Chadha, a member of the Rajya Sabha, has publicly rebuked his former political party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), concerning queries about his addition to the Delhi electoral roll. He described the party’s behaviour as reminiscent of an “ex-girlfriend” struggling to move forward. During a recent address in Chandigarh, he remarked that AAP continues to mention him, indicating that he has effectively moved on from the party.

Chadha expressed a degree of frustration over AAP’s persistent references to him, suggesting that it might be time for the party to focus on other matters. He remarked, “AAP is only dreaming of me and calling my name. AAP is behaving like an ex-girlfriend and the boyfriend has moved on.” This statement underscores the tension between Chadha and his former party.

His comments were triggered by AAP’s inquiry into the procedures surrounding the addition of his name to the electoral roll. The party has asked the Election Commission to clarify the process and make relevant documents publicly available, aiming to ensure transparency in voter registration procedures.

Election Commission Under Scrutiny

AAP’s national media in-charge, Anurag Dhanda, has called upon the Election Commission to provide details regarding when and where Chadha submitted Form 6, which is the application associated with new voter registration. Dhanda has raised concerns about the procedural integrity involved in Chadha’s registration, questioning how his name was listed at serial number 747 when the draft electoral roll published on August 31 included entries only up to serial number 746.

He further noted that the final electoral roll is set to be published on November 4, and if Chadha’s name is indeed a recent addition, it should be made transparent to the public. “If Chadha has filed Form 6 in Delhi, the Election Commission should make it public and give people an opportunity to file objections, as is done in the case of any ordinary citizen,” Dhanda argued, thus emphasising the need for clarity in the electoral process.

The escalating tension between AAP and Chadha highlights the complications surrounding electoral registration and communication between political entities. The inquiry by AAP represents a broader concern for transparency and accountability within the electoral system.

Chadha’s Journey and Recent Developments

The verbal exchange between Chadha and AAP comes in the wake of his notable departure from the party earlier this year. His political career with AAP commenced in 2012, where he was actively involved in the drafting of the Delhi Lokpal Bill under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. His rapid rise within the party culminated in a successful election to the Rajinder Nagar Assembly seat in February 2020, and subsequently, his election to the Rajya Sabha in March 2022 from Punjab.

However, Chadha’s relationship with AAP has soured since 2026, when the party removed him as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, later replacing him with a different member. Following these developments, Chadha resigned from AAP on April 24, 2026, and made the decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs, marking a significant shift in his political allegiances.

Chadha’s remarks and AAP’s inquiries reflect the ongoing complexities and challenges within Indian politics, especially concerning issues of party loyalty, electoral integrity, and the dynamics between former associates.
