The Pune Rural Police have stated that a suspected conspiracy leading to the murder of businessman Ketan Agrawal appears to have begun during a visit to Lohagad Fort on June 18. Officials revealed that Agrawal and the accused, Siya Goyal, visited the historical site together, where, it is alleged, Goyal first formulated the idea of killing Agrawal after observing him seated perilously close to the edge of the fort.

According to police reports, the alleged plan for Agrawal’s murder was not executed immediately. An initial attempt took place on June 14, when Goyal reportedly tried to push him off the fort, an action that was said to have failed. Following this, she supposedly raised an alarm about having spotted a snake, later claiming that Agrawal had fallen due to the panic that ensued.

The investigation highlights that the two maintained consistent communication, with over 2,000 phone calls exchanged over several months, raising concerns about the depth of the alleged conspiracy.

Meetings and Planning at a Cafe

Authorities believe Goyal’s motives stemmed from her unwillingness to marry Agrawal. It is alleged that she conspired with Chaudhary to eliminate him, and their relationship had developed from a chance meeting at a Diwali party last year, evolving into a close friendship. Both Goyal and Chaudhary reportedly wanted to avoid the commitments that marriage entailed, despite familial pressures.

The police investigation suggests that Goyal’s romantic feelings for Chaudhary may have played a role in her decision to conspire against Agrawal. While she allegedly sought to maintain her relationship with Chaudhary, she was reportedly not interested in proceeding with a marriage to Agrawal, which contributed to her extreme actions.

Current Status of Accused Individuals

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary are currently under police custody, having been remanded for seven days until June 29. Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation into the case to uncover further details regarding the conspiracy and its execution.

As the inquiry progresses, the police are focusing on the timeline of events leading up to Agrawal’s murder. Investigators are scrutinising all evidence, including communication records and witness accounts, to piece together the full narrative surrounding the incidents that unfolded during the couple’s visit to Lohagad Fort.
