Promoter Shot Dead at Point-Blank Range in Howrah; Two Assailants Identified on CCTV

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a scene reminiscent of a dark crime thriller, a young businessman was executed in cold blood during the early hours of Wednesday in North Howrah’s Golabari area. The victim, identified as Shafique Khan, was a resident of Pilkhana and was involved in the local promoting and construction business.

The incident occurred around 4:10 AM while the neighborhood was still waking up. Shafique had reportedly stepped out to pick up some food from a roadside stall when he was approached by two men. According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, the interaction was brief but haunting.

An eyewitness named Parvez recounted the terrifying moments: “Two men arrived and confronted Shafique. One of them mockingly asked, ‘Were you looking for me?’ before moving behind him. While one stood in front to distract him, the accomplice at the back pulled out a firearm and shot him twice in the head.”

Brutal Execution Caught on Camera

CCTV footage from the scene captures the clinical nature of the hit. As Shafique collapsed, the assailants fired two additional rounds into his chest to ensure he would not survive. The sheer audacity of the attack sent four other bystanders fleeing in terror. The gunmen, later identified by locals as Mohammad Harun Khan and Rohit, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Shafique was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Motive and Police Investigation

The Golabari Police have launched an intensive investigation into the daylight murder. While the motive remains under scrutiny, authorities are looking into two primary angles: a fallout over “protection money” (extortion) or a deep-seated personal vendetta related to his promoting business.

Family members of the deceased have pointed fingers at Harun. “There was a dispute with Harun a long time ago, but we didn’t think it would lead to this,” a relative stated. “It was Harun who brought the other man and pulled the trigger.”

As of Wednesday evening, no arrests have been made, though police are using the clear CCTV imagery to track the suspects. The brazen nature of the crime has left the Pilkhana locality gripped by fear and tension.
