On February 13, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated an All-India Conference in New Delhi, launching the ‘Karmayoga for Empowered Bharat’ campaign organized by the Brahma Kumaris. During her address, the President emphasized the need to merge moral values and spirituality with material progress to achieve a balanced and holistic development approach.
President Murmu articulated that while economic advancements can foster prosperity, and technological innovations can enhance efficiency and competition, it is imperative to intertwine these with ethical considerations. She pointed out that purely economic or technology-driven growth, devoid of moral values, could lead to social disparities. Instances of unethical economic practices may result in wealth concentration, ecological harm, and the exploitation of vulnerable communities.
In her speech, the President highlighted the detrimental effects that technology can have when not anchored in ethical standards. She underscored that spirituality plays a crucial role in establishing core values and a moral framework that encourage individuals to engage in Karmayoga, which is centered on selfless service. Furthermore, she noted that virtues such as compassion, integrity, and non-violence are vital in fostering a peaceful and equitable society.
According to President Murmu, grounding thoughts in spiritual values empowers individuals to move beyond self-interest, promoting collective welfare. She asserted that leaders of the nation can make equitable administrative choices by being guided by spirituality. Such decision-making processes should encompass the needs of all citizens, rather than prioritizing specific groups, thereby engendering trust and stability within society.
The President acknowledged that the Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya teaches Rajayoga, which is more than mere contemplation. She framed Karmayoga as a fundamental aspect of this practice, encompassing the necessity of adhering to high spiritual principles while fulfilling societal responsibilities.
She expressed satisfaction in noting that millions of Brahma Kumaris members lead meaningful lives through the practice of Karmayoga. The President advocated that by embracing Karmayoga, every citizen can significantly contribute to India’s sustainable and holistic development goals. This initiative, she explained, not only aims to enhance India’s economic trajectory but also sets the foundation for a society that exemplifies a value-centric lifestyle for the global community.
