Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 100th anniversary of the Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi, emphasising the nation’s security progress. He stated that those involved in terrorism are now at a disadvantage and issued a caution that if Pakistan engages in any hostile actions, India’s armed forces will response decisively within its territory.

PM Modi remarked that peace has improved significantly, extending from Jammu and Kashmir to the Northeast, and noted that the government’s efforts have successfully broken the momentum of Maoist terrorism and Naxalism. He stated, “Today, those spreading terrorism are on the back foot,” underscoring the heightened security landscape under his administration.

He further elaborated on the initiatives that have led to enhanced stability across various regions, indicating a strategic focus on counter-terrorism measures that have yielded positive results in recent times.

Economic Growth Amid Global Challenges

The Prime Minister also addressed India’s economic progress, revealing a quarterly GDP growth of 7.8 per cent, a factor he believes has revitalised national confidence in a challenging global climate. He noted that this achievement stands in stark contrast to the perception of India as one of the ‘Fragile Five’, a label it carried in the past.

Modi highlighted that the impressive economic indicators have emerged despite ongoing geopolitical conflicts and various trade obstacles. He claimed that achieving such growth under difficult circumstances demonstrates India’s resilience and capabilities, stating, “In just the past week, there have been several positive developments regarding India’s economy.”

He affirmed that the current administration is not only focused on economic expansion but is also dedicated to creating new job opportunities, a significant shift from previous years when unemployment was a pressing issue.

Reflections on Past Governance and Reforms

In his speech, PM Modi contrasted today’s governance with that of 2013, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He recounted his approach of presenting a vision of positivity and hope, which he maintained even while in opposition. He cautioned that those who chronically view the situation negatively may never appreciate the progress made since then.

Referring to the challenges faced in 2013, including rising inflation, high levels of corruption, and a struggling economy, he painted a vivid picture of the era’s difficulties. Modi mentioned incidents of violence and economic unrest, stressing that there was widespread concern over India’s international standing.

Addressing governance reforms, PM Modi recalled his call for ‘Pro-People Good Governance’ in 2013 and reiterated the need for a proactive approach to governance rather than reactive measures. He asserted that the current administration has retained this focus since assuming office in 2014, demonstrating significant changes in policy execution and project completions.

The Prime Minister concluded by stating that India’s infrastructure development has accelerated, with previously lengthy projects being completed swiftly. He emphasised that improvements in policy-making and decision-making speed are now attracting global partnerships, indicating an optimistic future for India’s economy and security framework.
