Within a month of inaugurating metro services in three different routes in the city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Kolkata again just before Durga Puja. This time, the PM will reportedly host a rally in Nabadwip of Nadia district on September 20, a day before Mahalaya.

The BJP has actively started campaigning in the state ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has visited Bengal three times in the last few months. He visited Alipurduar in North Bengal in May, Durgapur in July, which was followed by a visit to Kolkata last week where he flagged metro services in new routes. The PM took a metro ride with students and migrant workers, following which he held a meeting in Dum Dum.

According to Bengal BJP sources, Modi will come to Bengal again before Mahalaya. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to come to the city to inaugurate a few Durga pujas.

BJP actively campaigning ahead of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026

The BJP had won 77 seats in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections. Later, the number of seats in Bengal decreased due to the switching of several MLAs. The BJP is desperate to increase its seats in the upcoming assembly elections. According to BJP’s central observer and state leadership sources, the Prime Minister will hold one public meeting in each organisational division in 2025.

PM Modi has already held three meetings. He will hold a public meeting in Nabadwip on September 20, the day before Mahalaya, as per Bengal BJP sources. The campaign will continue in full swing after Durga puja when PM Modi and Amit Shah are expected to host several meetings in Bengal. Although the BJP has not yet confirmed the dates of the visit.

Amit Shah to inaugurate Durga Puja in Kolkata

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to visit Kolkata in September to inaugurate a few Durga Pujas. According to sources, he may inaugurate a famous Durga Puja in Central Kolkata which highlights the theme of India’s “Operation Sindoor” this year. Shah will be in Kolkata after Mahalaya, which falls on September 21.

According to party sources, Amit Shah will inaugurate two Durga puja pandals in Kolkata and one in Salt Lake the day after Mahalaya. These include a famous puja in Kolkata and a puja organised by the BJP at Government of India’s Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake. Last year, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) All India President JP Nadda had inaugurated two pujas in Kolkata.
