Pakistani Woman Begs PM Modi For Justice as Husband Plans Second Wedding in Delhi

The CSR Journal Magazine

A cross-border marriage that once appeared promising has now spiralled into a fraught legal and emotional struggle as a Karachi woman has accused her husband of abandoning her and preparing to remarry in India.

Nikita Nagdev, a resident of Karachi, has publicly appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that her husband, Vikram Nagdev, originally from Pakistan but living in Indore on a long-term Indian visa, left her stranded in Pakistan while secretly planning a second marriage in Delhi. Her emotional video appeal has gained attention from social organisations and legal bodies in both countries.

Timeline of Marriage and Sudden Distress

According to Nikita, she married Vikram on 26 January 2020 in Karachi in a Hindu ceremony. A month later, on 26 February, he brought her to India. However, she said the relationship began deteriorating soon after.

On 9 July 2020, Nikita claimed Vikram took her to the Attari border, citing a supposed “visa issue,” and forcibly sent her back to Pakistan. She says that despite repeated requests, he made no attempt to help her re-enter India or resume their married life.

“I kept requesting him to call me to India, but he refused every time,” Nikita said in her emotional video. In the video message recorded from Karachi, she appealed, “If justice is not served today, women will lose faith in the system. Many girls face physical and mental abuse in their marital homes. I urge everyone to stand with me.”

Allegations of Abuse and Extramarital Affair

Nikita alleged that her troubles began almost immediately after her wedding. When she returned with her husband to her in-laws’ home after their Pakistan wedding ceremonies, she noticed a stark change in their behaviour.

“When I returned to my in-laws’ home from Pakistan, their behaviour completely changed. I learned my husband was having an affair with one of my relatives. When I told my father-in-law, he said, ‘Boys have affairs, nothing can be done.'”

She also claimed she discovered Vikram was involved in an affair with one of her own relatives. When she confronted her father-in-law, he allegedly dismissed her concerns, calling such behaviour “common” and advising her to ignore it.

The COVID-19 lockdown, she said, worsened the situation. Vikram allegedly pressured her to return to Pakistan and refused to let her come back afterward. “Every woman deserves justice,” she added in her appeal.

Formal Complaint and Legal Proceedings

Disturbed by reports that Vikram was preparing to marry another woman in Delhi while still legally married to her, Nikita filed a complaint on 27 January 2025.

The matter was taken up by the Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, authorised by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Notices were issued to both Vikram and the woman he was allegedly engaged to. A hearing was conducted, but mediation efforts failed.

In its 30 April 2025 report, the Centre concluded that since neither Nikita nor Vikram holds Indian citizenship, the dispute legally falls under Pakistan’s jurisdiction. It recommended that Vikram be sent back to Pakistan.

Calls for Deportation and Rising Public Attention

This is not the first time the case has surfaced in Indore. In May 2025, Nikita approached the Indore Social Panchayat, which also suggested Vikram’s deportation. Indore Collector Ashish Singh confirmed that a formal inquiry is underway, stating that further action will be taken based on the findings.

Meanwhile, Nikita continues to call for justice, saying she fears being replaced while still legally married. Her case has amplified conversations on cross-border marriages, women’s rights, and the complexities of legal jurisdiction between India and Pakistan.
