In a disturbing turn of events, a man who journeyed nearly 175 kilometers to reconcile with his estranged wife ended up attacking her with a knife in the middle of a busy street in Balasore, Odisha. The woman, left critically injured, is now battling for her life in hospital.

Marital Dispute Leads to Public Attack

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when the accused, Sheikh Amjad, travelled from Cuttack to Balasore. Police stated that the couple had been living apart due to unresolved marital disputes. Amjad reportedly approached his wife in an effort to sort things out, but the meeting ended in violence.

Eyewitnesses told police that the two were talking on the roadside when Amjad suddenly became aggressive. In a shocking escalation, he pulled out a knife and slit her throat in full public view.

The entire assault was recorded on a bystander’s mobile phone, and the video has since gone viral on social media. The disturbing footage shows Amjad speaking to the woman, grabbing her face repeatedly, and then dragging her along the road. In the final moments, he is seen pulling her by the hair and slashing her throat, while onlookers scream in terror.

Woman Critical After Knife Attack

Local residents rushed to the woman’s aid and took her to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors managed to stabilise her initially. Given the severity of her injuries, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where her condition remains critical.

Meanwhile, bystanders managed to restrain Amjad on the spot, stopping him from escaping. They handed him over to the police, who have since taken him into custody.

An official from the police department said, “Further investigation into the case is underway.”
