“Nitish Kumar Defeated by PM Modi and Amit Shah”: Bhupesh Baghel

The CSR Journal Magazine

Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been outmaneuvered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Baghel’s remarks came after Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, an event attended by Amit Shah and various political figures.

He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not recognized Nitish Kumar as their Chief Ministerial candidate since the Bihar Assembly elections, suggesting that it was evident they intended to replace him. Despite Kumar taking the oath of office for a tenth time, Baghel emphasized that his recent actions indicate a defeat at the hands of Modi and Shah.

Opposition from Janata Dal (United) Supporters

Additionally, there are dissenting voices within the Janata Dal (United), as some supporters have publicly expressed their discontent. They displayed posters outside the party office, urging Kumar to revisit his decision. The posters read, “Nitish is answering the call of duty, the leader should reflect on his decisions,” and warned against compromising democratic values and the mandate given by the people.

Kumar’s Long Tenure and Rajya Sabha Nomination

Nitish Kumar, known for being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, has held office for over two decades. He submitted his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has positively received his nomination, praising his return to parliamentary responsibilities. Union Home Minister Amit Shah referred to Kumar’s tenure as a significant chapter in Bihar’s history, highlighting his substantial contributions to the state’s development.

Amit Shah Highlights Contributions to Bihar

Amit Shah reaffirmed support for Nitish Kumar, noting that for eleven years under Modi’s leadership, significant strides were made in various aspects of progress for Bihar. He stated that Kumar’s leadership facilitated the reach of numerous initiatives from Prime Minister Modi to the people of Bihar. Shah welcomed Kumar’s return to Delhi as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, recognizing the lasting legacy of his time as Chief Minister.

Upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections Scheduled

The polling for the upcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha, aimed at filling 37 seats across ten states, is set to occur on March 16. The counting of votes will take place on the same day at 5 PM. The vacant seats are a result of the term expiration of members elected from various states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana in April.
