Nestlé’s Low Fat Dairy Whitener Declared Unsafe By FSSAI

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has reported that a sample of Nestlé’s Low Fat Dairy Whitener has been deemed unsafe and substandard following a laboratory evaluation. The sample was taken from the premises of Ms Bharat Hotels Ltd. (The Lalit) located in Connaught Place, New Delhi. This action comes after a thorough review conducted as part of the authority’s regulatory oversight.

Findings from Laboratory Analysis

The analysis performed by the food analyst’s laboratory identified that the Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener sample did not comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Following the analysis, FSSAI relayed the results to the food business operator, providing them with a copy of the laboratory findings for further review and necessary actions.

FSSAI subsequently issued a formal notice to Bharat Hotels Ltd., alerting them to the status of the non-compliant product. It is crucial for food business operators to understand these findings, as they are responsible for ensuring that their products meet the stipulated safety standards.

The laboratory’s conclusions serve as a reminder for manufacturers to adhere strictly to health regulations and ensure the safety of their products before reaching consumers. This situation underlines the significance of routine inspections and evaluations conducted by food safety authorities in maintaining food quality and safety.

Prohibition of Sales and Consumer Advisory

FSSAI has advised consumers to stay updated on official announcements and verify the information regarding the affected batches of the Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener. Such advisories are crucial in empowering consumers to make informed decisions about their food purchases and consumption.

This incident highlights the pivotal role played by the FSSAI in overseeing food quality and safety in India. The authority continually monitors products in the market to identify and address any potential risks associated with food items. This case serves as a practical example of proactive measures taken to ensure that food products meet the established safety and quality standards.
