Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has launched the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Yojana with an aim to financially empower women. The CM has issued strict directives to the officials in the state in order to ensure swift and transparent implementation of the scheme.
What are the provisions of Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Yojana?
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Yojana is a scheme recently launched by the Maharashtra government to empower the women in the state by providing them with financial support. Under the scheme, the government will provide Rs 1,500 monthly to women in the state. The scheme is applicable to the women aged 21 to 65 residing in Maharashtra through the virtue of birth or because of marriage with the annual family income less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Taking into consideration the high demand for registration under this scheme, the application deadline for the same has been extended to 31st August 2024. This extension is aimed at accommodating more applicants and ensuring that everyone benefits from the scheme.
Apart from the monthly financial assistance, the scheme also provides three free LPG cylinders annually to the beneficiaries, and waives off the tuition fees for girls pursuing higher education in Maharashtra.
How to Apply for the scheme? The beneficiaries can apply for the scheme through online or offline means. To apply online: one can visit the official Maharashtra government portal https://maharashtra.gov.in and click on the “Apply Online” button. It is then required to fill in the required personal, financial, and contact details, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application form. It is possible to track the status of your application on the website.
To apply offline, one can obtain the application form from the nearest government office (e.g., Anganwadi Centre, Child Development Project Officer, Gram Sabha, Gram Panchayat Office). After filling out the form, one can attach the necessary documents, and submit it back to the same office.
Chief Minister Shinde has appointed nodal officers in each district to oversee the implementation of the scheme. The CM has also instructed the District Magistrates to closely monitor the process, to avoid interference of middlemen seeking to earn brokerage for providing brokerage and filling applications while exploiting the beneficiaries.
In a meeting at Vidhan Bhavan, the Chief Minister gave clear instructions and stressed that any delay or demand for money by officials would result in strict action. “Strict action will be taken against the office head as well as the middlemen,” he warned. Shinde’s directive aims to eliminate any form of corruption or delay in the application process.
Election year
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment in Maharashtra. It is a significant step towards enhancing women’s financial stability in the state. The urgency reflected in the CM’s directive regarding its implementation is aligned to the upcoming assembly elections in the state, wherein the two factions of the Shivsena will contest against one another to rule the state.
