Mother Plots Son’s Murder Over Property in Uttarakhand, 4 Others Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking case that has stunned the city, Uttarakhand Police have arrested five people, including the victim’s mother, for the murder of Dehradun businessman Arjun Sharma. Investigators say the killing was the result of a bitter property dispute within the family.

Sharma, 42, owner of Amardeep Gas Agency, was shot dead outside Tibetan Market on Wednesday by two assailants on a scooter.

Shooters Caught After Police Encounters

Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said the two shooters were arrested early Thursday morning following separate police encounters. Both suspects suffered gunshot wounds to their legs and are currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

The accused have been identified as brothers Rajiv Rana and Pankaj Rana from Pauri district. Police recovered two 315-bore pistols, cartridges and the scooter used in the crime.

Investigators later uncovered a larger conspiracy, leading to the arrest of the victim’s mother Beena Sharma and her alleged associates Vinod Uniyal and Dr Ajay Khanna.

Property Deal At Heart Of Conspiracy

According to police, the motive behind the murder was a long-standing dispute over a valuable property on GMS Road. Officials said Beena Sharma had agreed to sell the property to Dr Khanna for Rs 14 crore, of which Rs 8 crore had already been transferred through Uniyal.

However, Arjun Sharma opposed the transaction and secured a court stay, preventing the sale from proceeding. This reportedly created intense pressure on all parties, particularly Dr Khanna, who was seeking the return of his money.

Police said frequent arguments between mother and son followed, culminating in the alleged decision to eliminate him.

Contract Killing For Rs 12 Lakh

Investigators allege that the conspirators hired the shooters for Rs 12 lakh to carry out the murder. The attackers were reportedly paid Rs 3 lakh in advance, with the remaining amount promised after the job was completed.

Pankaj Rana is believed to have been working as a driver for Vinod Uniyal, which helped establish contact between the conspirators and the shooters.

The arrests have sent shockwaves through Dehradun, with authorities continuing to investigate the case to uncover any additional links or accomplices. Police said further legal proceedings are underway.
