Moradabad Mosque Faces Inquiry Over Construction Documentation

The CSR Journal Magazine

A mosque situated in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, has come under scrutiny following a notice from local authorities requesting documentation and plans pertaining to its construction. The Mustafa Mosque, located across from Teerthanker Mahaveer University on Delhi Road, spans approximately 300 square metres.

The Moradabad Development Authority (MDA) issued this notice after receiving a complaint that allegedly claimed the construction plans had not received the necessary approval. The mosque management has been asked to provide documents confirming that all required permissions were granted prior to construction.

Anubhav Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the MDA, confirmed that the authority had acted on the complaint regarding the mosque’s approval status. He stated, “Consequently, a notice was issued seeking relevant documents.” Singh added that the authority is currently assessing the submitted documentation and that any subsequent actions would adhere to established regulations.

Management Responds to Allegations

The Imam of the mosque, Mohammad Shan Azhari, has refuted allegations implying that the mosque is newly constructed. He asserted that the mosque has been operational for several decades. It has served as a place of worship for the local community throughout his family’s history.

Azhari further dismissed concerns regarding the potential obstruction of traffic on Delhi Road, claiming that the mosque does not hinder vehicular movement in the area. He assured that the mosque’s management intends to respond to the MDA’s notice promptly and in accordance with legal protocols.

The mosque’s Mutawalli (manager), Zeeshan, along with his son Farid Jabbar and other members of the management committee, is reportedly preparing to take legal action in this matter. Azhari mentioned that a comprehensive response to the MDA’s request will be formulated after reviewing all necessary documents.

MDA’s Examination and Next Steps

While the MDA has issued a notice, it is important to note that this action does not automatically imply that the mosque was constructed without the required authorisation. The authority has stated that it will determine its next steps only after a thorough examination of the submitted documents and the completion of its investigation.

The inquiry has raised questions within the local community. In fact, some residents expressed concerns over the potential implications for religious structures. The MDA has stated its commitment to adhering to regulatory procedures. Meanwhile. it has ensured that all parties involved are given a fair opportunity to present their case.

As investigations proceed, the outcome will depend on the compliance of the mosque management and the findings of the MDA. The authority aims to ensure that any decision made will be in harmony with legal guidelines and community sentiments. Citizens are expected to await further announcements regarding the matter as the investigation unfolds.
