This forecast is linked to a well-marked low-pressure area situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent regions of north coastal Odisha, Jharkhand, and the northwest Bay of Bengal, which is anticipated to move west-northwest towards north Odisha and Jharkhand over the next 48 hours.

This low-pressure system is a significant contributor to the ongoing extensive rain in central and eastern India. The western parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are particularly marked for intensified rainfall. Hilly areas, including Uttarakhand, will also face a surge in monsoon conditions as rainfall intensifies further.

Forecast for Northern and Eastern States

On September 2, the IMD has indicated that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is also projected for various states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, as well as regions in Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

The comprehensive seven-day weather outlook revealed by the IMD highlights that the rainy conditions will persist for some time. Fairly widespread rainfall is expected in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the initial days of September, while West Madhya Pradesh will also experience significant rainfall beginning September 2.

In urban areas such as Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh, the forecast for September 2 includes isolated instances of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Punjab is similarly anticipated to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms sporadically. Meanwhile, significant rainfall has already been observed in East Uttar Pradesh, where the IMD reported heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations on September 1.

Southern India Receives Limited Rainfall

The rainfall pattern across southern India is expected to be less pronounced. The IMD forecasts isolated to scattered rainfall over coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. However, coastal regions of Karnataka are likely to report fairly widespread to widespread rain.

In western India, the Konkan and Goa regions are expected to remain significantly wet. Meanwhile, parts of Gujarat, as well as Maharashtra and Marathwada, are predicted to receive more sporadic showers. The weather patterns are closely monitored as conditions evolve further.

Overall, September 2 is set to continue the active monsoon phase, with a primary focus on central and eastern India while also maintaining precipitation in northern and northeastern states.
