In a disturbing incident in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, a senior English teacher has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after allegedly proposing marriage to a Class 9 student and following her home.
The girl’s father reported that on January 7, during a lunch break, the teacher told his daughter, “I like you. As per my horoscope, I will have two wives.” Following this, the teacher reportedly followed her to their home and made obscene gestures.
The student’s father also accused the Chief Block Education Officer (CBEO) and the Assistant CBEO of pressuring them to withdraw the complaint. He claimed that they were threatened with withholding his daughter’s transfer certificate and admission to any school if they did not comply.
Immediate Action was Taken Against the Teacher
The school principal took immediate action by reporting the incident along with CCTV footage to higher authorities. Following an investigation, the teacher was found guilty and suspended. The girl’s statement was recorded before a magistrate, and a case has been filed against the teacher and education officials for harassment and attempting to influence the investigation.
This case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students in educational institutions. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
The incident has sparked outrage among the public, leading to calls for stricter measures to protect students from such misconduct. The education department has pledged to review its policies and ensure that such incidents do not recur.
