14-Year-Old Boy Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself While Playing With Gun in Punjab

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking but heartbreaking incident has come to light from Ferozepur, Punjab. Here, a 14-year-old schoolboy lost his life after a licensed revolver reportedly went off while he was playing with it at home. The tragic accident occurred in a posh residential area of the border town on Tuesday morning.

Incident Took Place Inside the Family’s Home

According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred after the boy had returned from school. He had gone to his room to fetch clothes from a cupboard. Inside the cupboard, a licensed revolver belonging to a family member was allegedly stored. While handling the weapon, the teenager inadvertently pulled the trigger. This discharged a bullet that fatally struck him in the head.

The sound of the gunshot alarmed the family. The family rushed to the boy’s room and found him lying on the floor, drenched in blood. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where he received first aid. Following which he was referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. Despite being placed on a ventilator, the minor succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation Underway

According to reports, the Ferozepur police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The boy’s body was taken into custody. Furthermore, the police also took statements from the family of the victim. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting. This also includes how the loaded weapon was accessible to a minor.

In addition to this, the police confirmed that the firearm involved was a licensed revolver. Initial evidence points to an accidental firing. However, all aspects of the case, including firearm storage practices, are being examined.

Previous Similar Incident

This incident echoes a similar tragedy earlier this year when AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died due to accidental firing from his licensed pistol while cleaning it.The Ferozepur case has once again raised concerns about firearm safety and storage, especially in homes with children.
