If there are Military Attacks on us, it will be met with a Very Firm Response: S Jaishankar warns after Operation Sindoor

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has opened up on “Operation Sindoor” calling it India’s response to a “particularly barbaric terrorist attack on 22nd April”. He has also warned that India will not sit back if there are any military attacks on us and that it will be met with a “very very firm response.” Without naming Pakistan, he further said, “As a neighbour and a close partner it is important that you have a good understanding of the situation”.

This comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan post Operation Sindoor on May 7 which was India’s response to Pahalgam terror attack of April 22.

“We responded to a particularly barbaric terrorist attack on 22nd April in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This attack compelled us to respond on 7th May by striking at cross-border terrorist infrastructure. Our response was targeted and missioned. It was not our intention to escalate the situation. However, if there are military attacks on us, there should be no doubt that it will be met with a very very firm response. As a neighbour and a close partner it is important that you have a good understanding of the situation,” EAM S Jaishankar said on Thursday.

On Wednesday morning, few hours after the targeted strikes, the External Affairs Minister posted on X, “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism. #OperationSindoor”

Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor came as a decisive response by India to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which had claimed the lives of 26 civilians. Over 80 terrorists were reportedly killed in a series of attacks carried out by Indian armed forces on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) early on May 7, Wednesday.

In the cross-border action, named Operation Sindoor, nine facilities linked to banned terrorist outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen were targeted. The attacks were carried out between 1:05-1.30 am. Four of the nine sites were located inside Pakistan, while the remaining five were in POK. However, no Pakistani military installations were targeted.

On Wednesday, PM Modi chaired a Cabinet meeting where he informed that the operation was executed exactly as planned, with “no mistakes whatsoever” and India has “successfully completed” the retaliatory attack.
