The brutal murder of former merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput has sent shockwaves through his family and the public. His wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla, have been arrested in connection with the crime. According to the post-mortem report, Rajput’s body was dismembered in a gruesome manner: his head was severed, both hands cut off, and his legs bent backward in an attempt to fit his remains into a drum. The cause of death was determined to be shock and excessive bleeding from multiple stab wounds to the heart.
How the Incident Took Place
The crime occurred on March 4, when Rajput was allegedly drugged and then stabbed in the heart by his wife. After killing him, Muskan and Sahil dismembered his body and sealed it inside a drum with cement to prevent decomposition. To cover their tracks, they sent fake messages from Rajput’s phone to his family, claiming he was fine, while they went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh.
The case came to light when Rajput’s family reported him missing on March 18, prompting an investigation. The police eventually arrested Muskan and Sahil, revealing that Muskan had been planning the murder since November 2023. Sahil, described as superstitious, was manipulated by Muskan into believing that messages from his deceased mother were coming through a fake Snapchat account that Muskan had created.
How Both Accused were Arrested
In an attempt to avoid suspicion, the couple checked into a hotel in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh, posing as a married couple. They remained secluded in their room for six days, avoiding contact with hotel staff and other guests. After leaving on March 16, they returned to Meerut, where they were arrested.
Saurabh’s family has raised allegations that Muskan’s parents knew about the murder before the police were informed. Rajput’s mother, Renu Devi, accused Muskan’s family of trying to mislead investigators and evade legal consequences.
