Liquor prices to increase across West Bengal from December 1

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a bad news for alcohol lovers ahead of the Christmas New Year festive season, liquor prices will be increasing in West Bengal from December 1. A notification has been issued by the West Bengal Excise Directorate where it has been clearly stated that the new excise duty will be effective from the beginning of next month, i.e. from December 1. As a result, the prices of all types of domestic and foreign liquor are going to increase. However, the price of beer is not increasing right now.

According to sources, the price of foreign liquor may increase by Rs 10-15 per 180 ml bottle. In the case of 750 ml bottle of liquor, it may increase by Rs 30-40 depending upon the brand of liquor, excise duty, etc. In the case of domestic liquor, the price may increase by more or less Rs 10 per bottle. However, the price of beer is not being increased this time because beer price was recently increased.

Old stock bottles will be sold at new price after Nov 30

The state excise department has already notified liquor manufacturing companies about the same. Wholesalers and distributors have also been informed. The Excise Department has instructed that the old stock liquor bottles should be sold as much as possible by November 30 because the same will have to be sold at the new price from December 1. If bottles from the old stock remains unsold, then the new excise duty rate will be effective on them.

New price stickers on bottles mandatory

To avoid any confusion among the buyers regarding the price hike, it has been made mandatory to put new price stickers on all the bottles. A specific time has also been given for this, it is reported. If this new decision is implemented, it is believed that the revenue collection of the state government will increase a lot. However, there is still uncertainty about how much revenue will increase.

One of the major revenue sources of the West Bengal government is the sale of liquor. According to experts, even if the price of liquor increases, the demand does not decrease because liquor lovers buy liquor even if the price is high. However, it is not yet clear how much extra money will enter the state government’s treasury due to the price increase this time. According to analysists, after at least one month after the new price comes into effect from December 1, it will be understood how much more money is entering the state’s treasury due to the hiked price.
