Keralam Assembly Elections Scheduled for 9 April 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Keralam Assembly Elections are slated for April 9, 2026, with voting occurring in a single phase across the state’s 140 constituencies. The Election Commission of India announced this date in March 2026. To facilitate smooth voting, over 30,471 polling stations will be established throughout Kerala. Authorities are taking measures to ensure an efficient electoral process for all eligible voters.

The counting of votes is set to take place on May 4, 2026, with results expected to be declared on the same day. For this election, the government aims to ensure that every voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

Voting Timings and Eligibility

Voting will occur from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on election day. Voters who are in line at their polling stations before the closure time will still be permitted to cast their ballots. This timing aligns with the standard practices observed in elections throughout India, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate without undue rush.

To vote in the Keralam Assembly Elections, individuals must meet specific eligibility criteria. Voters must be Indian citizens, at least 18 years old by the qualifying date, and registered on Kerala’s electoral roll. Those who reach the age of 18 by June 1, 2026, were allowed to enrol during the electoral roll revision process. The final electoral rolls indicate there are approximately 2.71 crore eligible voters in the state.

Required Documentation for Voting

Individuals intending to vote must present valid identification at the polling stations. Acceptable forms of ID include a Voter ID (EPIC) or any of the following documents: Aadhaar card, driving licence, PAN card, passport, bank passbook with a photo, MGNREGA job card, or a pension document with a photo. If individuals do not possess these forms of identification, election officials can verify a voter’s name in the electoral rolls at the polling station to authorise their participation.

It is advisable for voters to ensure they have the necessary documentation ready before heading to the polls. Being prepared will help streamline the voting process and reduce waiting times on election day, contributing to a more organised electoral experience.

Voters can verify their registration status and ensure their details are correct before the elections by visiting the official voter portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in or through the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala’s website. They can search for their information using their EPIC number, name and address, or mobile number. Additionally, downloading the PDF electoral rolls for specific polling stations can further assist voters in confirming their voting status.
