Karwa Chauth Moon Sighting Likely To Be Impacted As Delhi-NCR Braces For Rainy Evening

The CSR Journal Magazine

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for parts of Delhi-NCR due to the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday. This weather warning raises concerns regarding the visibility of the moon on Karwa Chauth, a significant occasion for many in the region. As of approximately 3:40 pm, a red alert is in effect for North Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South West Delhi, while an orange alert has been declared for Central Delhi, North East Delhi, and South East Delhi. In addition, Gurugram is under a yellow alert until 6 pm.

The IMD has forecasted cloudy skies for the evening, which could hinder moon sighting during the festivities. The minimum temperature in the national capital is expected to be around 19 degrees Celsius, with a maximum temperature projected to reach 26 degrees Celsius on October 29. This weather pattern is anticipated to affect the rituals associated with Karwa Chauth.

Impact On Karwa Chauth Rituals

The adverse weather conditions may disrupt the traditional Karwa Chauth rituals, where women observing the fast typically await the moon’s appearance before breaking their fast. Amateur meteorologist Navdeep Dhaiya has indicated that continuous rain and cloud cover could complicate the evening moon sighting. He noted, “Karwa Chauth fasting will be impacted by weather! Frequent spells of varied-intensity showers will continue throughout the day along with cloudy conditions in Delhi NCR, Haryana, West UP, and Chandigarh. Moon sighting is not expected at night due to overcast conditions; plan accordingly.”

Such weather patterns may lead to a change in how the rituals are observed, as many individuals rely on clear skies to mark the occasion. The uncertainty surrounding the visibility of the moon could lead to adjustments in the timing of the rituals, as participants may need to consider the prevailing conditions.

In light of these developments, individuals observing Karwa Chauth are advised to remain updated on the weather forecasts and plan their activities accordingly. The IMD’s warnings serve as a reminder of the impact that weather can have on cultural and religious practices.

Delhi Weather Forecast

The forecast indicates a shift towards clearer conditions beginning November 1, when temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 17 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius. This trend of clear skies is projected to continue into November 2, with the minimum temperature dipping to 16 degrees Celsius while the maximum remains stable at 30 degrees Celsius.
