A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Karnataka’s Chitradurga district. A partially burnt body of a 20-year-old girl was found on Tuesday. The victim is identified as Varshitha, a second-year BA student from Government Women’s First Grade College. The discovery of her body comes two days after she went missing.
According to reports the young woman lived in the SC/ST hostel. She had left her hostel on August 14 after submitting a leave application and had not been heard from since. Her phone was switched off, and she could not be contacted.
Family identify the body
Varshitha’s parents, Tippeswamy and Jyothi, were about to file a missing person complaint when the police informed them about the discovery of the body. The family was called to the district hospital to identify her remains, which left them devastated. Authorities suspect that Varshitha was raped and murdered before her body was set on fire, possibly to destroy evidence.
Investigation Underway, Murder Case Registered
Following the discovery and identification of the body, the Chitradurga Rural Police Station registered a murder case. The police launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the accused. DYSP Dinakar and PI Muddu Raj are actively involved in the investigation and have visited the hospital to oversee proceedings. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm details related to the cause of death and any sexual assault.
Further investigation into the matter revealed that Varshitha was reportedly in a relationship with a man who might be linked to the case. The police are exploring this angle as part of the ongoing probe.
Similar Incident in Tumakuru Raises Concerns
In a similarly disturbing incident, earlier this month, Tumakuru shocked locals when dismembered body parts of a 42-year-old woman, Lakshmidevamma, were found scattered across various locations.
Her severed hands were first spotted being dragged by a dog on August 7. Police suspect foul play and deliberate dismemberment to hinder identification, echoing concerns over safety in the region.
