Kanpur Horror: Stray Dog Found Roaming With Newborn’s Body; Head, Arms Missing

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident has come to light from Kanpur’s Basant Vihar area on Thursday morning. Here, a stray dog was spotted carrying the mutilated body of a newborn in Friends Park.

Local resident Amit Trivedi noticed the dog running with a bundle wrapped in cloth around 10 a.m. Suspicious, he chased the dog, which dropped the body before fleeing. Upon unwrapping, residents discovered the newborn’s torso with its head and arms missing.

Newborn Likely Only Hours Old

Police investigation revealed that, based on the umbilical cord, the baby was born roughly 24 to 36 hours ago. The infant, identified as a male, had suffered severe injuries to the chest and lower torso, likely caused by stray dogs. A crucial clue was a palm with an IV cannula attached, suggesting the baby had been born in a hospital or nursing home.

Police Probe Possible Illegal Abandonment or Abortion

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Deependra Nath, stated that authorities are exploring two possibilities: the newborn may have been the victim of an illegal abortion and dumped in a garbage heap, or the child could have died shortly after birth and been improperly buried, only to be disturbed by stray dogs. The body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

CCTV Footage and Hospital Records Under Review

Hanumant Vihar police in-charge Rajiv Singh prepared an official inquest and confirmed the body was found wrapped in cloth with woolen socks on the feet. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and checking records at local hospitals and nursing homes to trace the origins of the newborn and identify those responsible for the abandonment.

The shocking discovery has left residents horrified and raised concerns over illegal abortions, unsafe neonatal care, and the risks posed by stray animals in residential areas. Authorities have urged locals to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
